Quirky, wonderful, magic. If you’re looking for a place to dive deep into a contemplative practice, have a getaway with your beloved(s), or carve time and space while you write your book - and still have access to cute (town and resources) humanity - this place is for you. Built in 1960, she’s a proper log cabin, with wood floors and chinked walls, replete with vintage wool blankets and lots of art made by friends. Fully furnished! The kitchen has everything you’ll need to properly cook, plus a big kitchen table. Large front porch with seating, good for Hobbit Teatime joy, weather permitting (or if you like to take tea in your snowsuit). Absolutely delicious (recently tested) well water. The one acre property is open, but surrounded by trees, so it feels both wide and secluded. If you walk up the dirt road, see views of this sweet valley. A beautiful stream runs the length of the property line; you can hear it from every room in the house, especially the bedrooms. It makes for magnificent sleep. THE AREA: The house is 2 miles from Grafton, proper, which is a postcard VT town with a sweet cafe (good coffee, prepared foods, gifts, groceries), post office, library, and the famous Nature Center and Grafton Inn. (You can even use their gym for $25/month.) The town is also known for their well-kept hiking and skiing trails, but the house itself abuts 200 acres of state forest, so if you prefer to simply tromp, you can do that right out the back door. 30-45 minutes to various ski slopes. 25 minutes to either Springfield, Putney, or Bellows Falls for really good Co-ops, restaurants, and shops. AMENITIES: -Laundry -Wood stove (if you are an experienced wood stove user - if not, I will request that you not use the stove OR that we do a rigorous tutorial.) -Outdoor Firepit with Adirondack chairs -Linens + Towels PLEASE: NO Smoking of any kind. No cats. I will consider a dog with multiple impeccable references. ACCESSIBILITY: The house is not wheelchair accessible. There are 7 stairs to the front door, none at the back door, and 13 stairs to the second floor, inside. A few creative log-cabin-y thresholds. There have been both dogs and cats in the house, though cats less recently. The space will be professionally cleaned before you arrive. LASTLY: I so hope to welcome someone or some folks to come and enjoy this beautiful place.
