Located in Anne Arundel County, in a rural-suburban community within easy driving distance to Downtown Annapolis (U.S. Naval Academy, the historic district), Washington, D.C., Fort Meade, Baltimore and the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Shore, this private, two-story, 1,000-square-foot apartment is a fully-equipped home away from home for guests needing temporary housing for a work or school assignment in the area. The space is best for 1 adult or a couple as the bedroom/main living area are one and the same. As we live in the main home (the two units are entirely separate and each has its own entrance) and like our neighbors, we seek to rent to quiet, responsible tenants who will be good property-mates and properly care for the space. The first floor of the unit contains an entry foyer, two closets, a dining area, kitchen and full bathroom featuring a Japanese-style shower area with a deep soaking tub. The kitchen has a bar sink, dishwasher, full-sized refrigerator, countertop oven and two-burner electric cooktop. The washing machine is in the kitchen but the dryer is in the garage. The sleeping area and main living area are housed together in a large room on the second floor. That space has a queen-sized bed, a twin bed, a loveseat/sleeper sofa, a large flat-screen TV, two desks, assorted seating, dressers and a closet. Utilities (heat, a/c, electric, water and internet) are included. The finished garage (which has heat and a/c) is a shared fitness space with a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike and rowing machine. Guests are welcome to store a bike or sports gear in the garage, and they can use our gas BBQ grill if desired. Our property and those of our backyard neighbors are very private and farm-like. We have two Chihuahuas and two cats but none are allowed into the apartment. One neighbor owns and boards horses. Guests are welcome to spend time outdoors in our large tree-filled yard. The apartment has its own private, sunset-facing patio with seating. The neighborhood is safe and is good for exercise walks or jogs. (Flashlights and reflective gear are essential for after dark.) The houses are close enough that we know most of our neighbors but we're not on top of one another. Guests looking for a safe, quiet, home away from home will enjoy our place. Folks looking to be in an active, walkable area with access to shops, dining, bars, lots of people and more just beyond their front door will find the location too isolating. That said, the cities of Annapolis, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., are all within reach, as are suburban shopping centers, malls and big box stores. We have loved being able to work in the city and come home to what feels like living in the country. The roadways near us are rural, winding and beautiful. But since they lack sidewalks, bike lanes or even shoulders, a car is essential for venturing beyond our immediate neighborhood. Parking is onsite right in front of the apartment. There's room for two tenant vehicles. The closest Metros into Washington, D.C., are the New Carrollton (Orange Line) and Largo (Blue Line). Both have daily parking for a fee. A park-and-ride lot serving commuter buses to D.C. is about 5 miles away. Driving west into downtown D.C. can take 35 minutes or 90 minutes, depending on the time of day. Downtown Annapolis is to the east and is about a 20 minute drive. Downtown Baltimore is 45 minutes or more. Please note: As the apartment has lots of stairs, with the bedroom upstairs and bathroom down, the space is not a good fit for anyone who has trouble with stairs. While there is room for a young child to stay or visit, the unit's stairs and tile flooring could be unsafe for a toddler or crawler. Lastly, the second floor has a sloped ceiling in parts, so a tall person might hit their noggin.
