I'm a University of Toronto professor seeking someone reliable with excellent references (preferably an/other academic/s) to enjoy and look after my comfortable apartment in Parkdale (west downtown). With two workspaces (separate office, plus desk in the bedroom) the space could suit two academics. The apartment occupies the second and third storeys of a semi-detached house with private front entrance on the ground floor, and is situated at the corner of two leafy, quiet residential streets. You’ll be steps away from two lively retail areas, west Queen Street West (Parkdale) and Roncesvalles Avenue (“Ronces”), excellent for coffee shops, food shopping (bakeries, fruit and veg, cheese and fish shops as well as several large and small supermarkets), diverse selection of restaurants, many other businesses and services. Nearby outdoor amenities: pleasant walking path and the Martin Goodman cycling trail along Lake Ontario, the wonderful Sunnyside pool (massive, lakeside, free), and High Park (wooded, great for walking, cycling, birdwatching, and another free outdoor pool). The main living space is on the third floor, with windows overlooking trees to the east, south and west, and quiet, comfortable cork flooring. Off the kitchen is a west-facing roof deck with flowering plants and herbs, overhung by a large linden tree, a pleasant place to eat or read (shady until early afternoon, then it gets hot). The kitchen has a gas range with extractor fan, Bosch dishwasher, fridge/ freezer, microwave, electric kettle, toaster, and a versatile toaster oven (no conventional oven), and is well equipped with pots and pans, food processor, etc. All appliances (except microwave) are fairly new and in excellent working order. Comfortable living room seating consists of a large sofa and two armchairs. The third floor also has a convenient powder room (toilet and sink). The bedroom is on the second floor with east-facing bay window overlooking the front garden, furnished with a queen-size bed with firm mattress in very good condition, wardrobe with drawers and hanging space, and desk and chair. There is another closet with hanging space in the hallway outside the main bedroom. Also on the second floor is a small south-facing office with desk and fully adjustable desk chair (memory foam seat), printer, bookshelves (I’ll partially clear for your use), and the main bathroom with large tub and shower, washer, dryer and wall-mounted drying rack. (A smaller second bedroom isn't included in the rental as I’ll use for storage.) Toronto summers can be very hot and humid, so the house is equipped with thermostat-controlled central air conditioning and an additional remote-controlled AC pump on the third floor. The house is a legal duplex with hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and soundproofing. The ground floor is a long-term rental property, currently occupied by two quiet graduate students You'll be close to many public transit options, with the Queen, King, Dundas and College streetcars each within a ten-minute walk, and 5 minutes to the Lansdowne bus which takes you to the Lansdowne subway station in another 5 minutes. University of Toronto St George campus can be accessed via the College (Carlton) Streetcar or bus and subway in 20-25 minutes.

Comments: No conventional oven, there's a small toaster oven which heats up to 450 F suitable for baking and roasting, makes a fantastic open-face grilled cheese. Large, outdoor Sunnyside pool is a 20-minute walk away.
