We are retired UC Berkeley faculty renting our lovely North Berkeley home for 7 weeks October 1-Nov 19, 2024. Our location near the Marin/Arlington Circle is very convenient for university visitors - 1 mile north of campus, a 25-minute walk or 10-minute bike ride. The house is ideal for a productive sabbatical leave for 2-4 people. We’re close to all that North Berkeley has to offer - ¼ mile to Solano Ave shops and restaurants, ¼ mile to Live Oak Park (tennis and basketball courts, art gallery, community theatre), ½ mile to the Shattuck gourmet ghetto, and a mile to the Hopkins corridor markets. For trips to Oakland or San Francisco, we’re a 5-minute drive to the Downtown Berkeley or North Berkeley BART stations, and a 3-minute walk to a bus stop. For exercise and recreation, it’s a 5-minute drive to the regional Tilden Park with hiking trails and picnic spots, and 15 mins to parks along the San Francisco bay. Downstairs is a multi-function bedroom with queen bed, workspace, and French doors to the back patio, and next to the bedroom is a ¾ bathroom with shower. The two rooms facing the front of the house both have filtered views of the bay: the track-lit living room with library, stereo system, and working fireplace; and the family room with a large wall-mounted monitor for streaming. A laundry room is next to the family room, and the spacious and fully equipped renovated kitchen & dining room are at the back of the house, with French doors to the lovely garden. Our landscaped backyard offers two patios, patio table & chairs, gas barbecue, fountain, and ping pong table. The upstairs offers a master bedroom with queen bed, a smaller bedroom with a single bed and a Precor Adaptive Motion Trainer machine, and a renovated bathroom with large walk-in shower plus a separate deep tub. The front windows of the master bedroom and foyer feature a filtered view of the bay. (An additional upstairs study will be used for storage and locked during the rental. If use of the study is important for your stay, we will include it for an additional $500/mo.) Rent includes internet, trash, housecleaning every 2 weeks, and gardener every 4 weeks. Given the short rental, we require full payment of rent plus security deposit in advance. Gas/electric and water charges will be deducted from the deposit upon our return. Please note that our home is on the upslope side of our street with a flight of steps to the front door.
