House | Private Space
Available Dates:

Description

The house is a 1916 stucco single family home with about 2100 sq. ft. of living space, nestled in a quiet residential area half a block off a lively retail street in the Chicago Edgewater neighborhood with art and theaters, and a fine mix of shops, cafes, and restaurants. Beaches on Lake Michigan are in walking distance as are the Chicago Mosaic School; the Loyola University campus; and the area of quirky Andersonville while bike lanes are sprouting (inclucing a bike track along the lake front to downtown). One stop of the Metra; several bus stops as well as two stops of the cta 'Red Line', all in walking distance, provide easy access to public transport e.g. to DePaul University or downtown. Other Chicago Universities, including Evanston's Northwestern University, are accessible with some commuting time. Car sharing is negotiable; and street parking is usually manageable. The first floor provides ample space to share. There is an open kitchen with common amenities (dish washer, microwave, 'quick meal' counter); a dining room with a table which can do double duty as office desk; a living room currently set up with a TV screen in front of the fire place; a family/sun room dedicated to lounging, hearing music, reading, and socializing. Two porches plus a Japanese inspired garden in the back provide outdoor living spaces in warmer months. On the second floor, you would occupy a furnished guest room with a build-in closet, a queen-size bed, a drawer chest, night stands, and your own separate bathroom across the hallway. The basement offers a work shop, a laundry room with washer and dryer, and storage space. Sheets and towels will be provided; and dry cleaners are also close by. Your contribution to the costs of utilities (gas, water, electricity, WiFi) and cleaning once every two weeks will be included in the total rent of $950. I will ask for a month's rent as deposit. As to living with Covid, I still keep my vaccination status updated, and I've placed HEPA grade air purifier throughout the house, including one in your bedroom, while I just open windows when the weather complies (like in spring and autumn). These air purifies also help on wildfire smoke days -- and with a last issue to raise here: I do smoke, thus the house is not 'smoke-free'! I try to minimize the impact, i.e. I only smoke in my rooms, outdoors in warmer months and, in colder months, in the family/sun room on the shared 1st floor (which would be the only 'indoor smoking space' for also smoking tenants). As mentioned, the air purifiers as also opening windows help also. But 'smoke-free', the house is not. Thus, if you are very sensitive to cigarette smoke, this place is not for you.
