This is a contemporary flat in Ice Wharf, located on the Regent's Canal with a balcony view of moored narrow boats on the Battle Bridge Basin. All main rooms have large windows facing south for ample light yet excellent privacy. The flat is on the fourth floor with elevator, one of twenty in a building that is gated and highly secure, with 24-hour security staff. "A little Venice," says one tenant; "highly conducive to creative work," reports another. The building was designed by Tchaik Chassay as a contemporary rendition of traditional canal-side warehouses, a moated grange with immediate access to all the amenities of the central city. Ice Wharf is a ten-minute walk from the British Library and a five-minute walk from King's Cross/St Pancras, "the best connected transport hub in London and the UK." The Piccadilly, Victoria, Northern, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan, and Circle Underground lines all come to King's Cross. Eurostar operates out of St Pancras, putting you a five-minute walk from a fast train to Paris or Brussels. Many bus connections are available, as well, but most daily needs are within walking distance: not only the shops of the train stations and the local area, but also the British Museum, Bloomsbury, Islington, and West-End theater. As the gateway to England for those arriving by Eurostar, King's Cross is a buzzy center for dozens of new restaurants, events, and amenities. The flat has a spacious living/dining room with sofabed, lounge chairs, dining table seating six easily, flat-screen TV, and DVD player; bedroom with queen-sized bed and generous closet; study with desk, bookcase, laser printer/scanner, and sofabed; fully-fitted, modern kitchen with washer and dryer, full-sized refrigerator/freezer, and microwave; bathroom with deep tub and power shower. Bath and bed linens, dinnerware and kitchen utensils are all provided. The main rooms of the flat are open-plan; the fourth "wall" of the studio is open to the living/dining room. However, the bedroom is private and self-contained. Both bedroom and studio have separate doors onto the front hall that gives access to the bathroom. Power, water, heat, TV license, high-speed internet access, and taxes are included without extra charge. Phone is provided but billed by use (and can be avoided with cell-phone use). Cleaning services can be arranged if you choose. Direct trains from Heathrow and Gatwick airports make arrival and departure easy, as does the Eurostar terminal. The photos show: the living room towards the study, including the balcony, the gated Ice Wharf building (our balcony is directly under the H in Ice Wharf), the living room, the dining area, the bedroom, the study, the entry hallway, the view from the balcony, and the courtyard below us with local geese. Ideal for faculty on sabbatical and faculty directing study abroad programs.
