Description

This is a charming Victorian semi-detached house; built ~1905 the house retains many of its original features, including restored sash windows, creaky stairs, and wonky doors! This is a fully furnished, excellently appointed turn-key solution for your time in Cambridge. Three bedrooms, a modern family bathroom, 2 sitting rooms, a kitchen-diner, office, wireless fibre broadband. Finally, the house is insulated and double glazed throughout, itself a rarity for a house this age. Situated five minutes walk to Jesus Green, riverside cafes, pubs, restaurants, grocery store. Ten minutes walk to the city centre. Ideal for a couple or a couple with one or two children. More than two children might be a squeeze, but perfectly possible. This is advertised fully stocked-all bedding, towels, all kitchen/cooking items are provided. This house is over three floors. The master bedroom (bed is 160 x 200cm) is located at the top of the house in the loft conversion which is a room flooded in natural daylight which looks out over local allotments. It has very generous built in wardrobes. On the second floor is a double bedroom (140 x 200), with drawers, shelves, and wardrobe. There is also a small room suited to a child (bed is 90x200 but can be shrunk to toddler size), again with shelves, wardrobe, and drawers. Both these rooms also have lots of natural light. The family bathroom is also on this floor with a full-sized bath, toilet, generous sink, and a wonderfully big shower with great water pressure. Hot water 24hrs a day. Please note none of the bedrooms are en-suite. Downstairs there is a front and a back sitting room. There is a wood burning stove in the front sitting room, which is fully functional (cleaned April 2024). The back sitting room has a wall hung TV, & Apple TV and leads to the kitchen. The modern kitchen has a gas hob that sits atop a full-sized electric oven. There is a full-size fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, a small wine fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. The kitchen has an abundance of storage, and the diner has a lovely, vaulted ceiling, making it quite airy. Bifolding doors open from the kitchen into the garden and generally these can be fully open all day from May-Sept. Off the kitchen is a small downstairs toilet. Gas heating is run from a high-efficiency combination-boiler which has been serviced annually. The retrofitted external insulation ensures the house never gets very cold in winter, thus keeping costs to a minimum. There is a small, easy to maintain garden, with an apple tree that fruits abundantly in Sept. There is also a "garden room" office/studio/playroom, again fully insulated with electricity. The house has side access which facilitates garbage bin storage. There is ample covered bike parking outside the front of the house. The house is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac with a neighbourhood residential parking scheme. Annual parking passes can be bought from the council. The street itself has limited parking, but given zoning parking is easy to find nearby. It is worth noting that having a car is not essential in this area. The neighbours are all friendly, and generally there is a very convivial atmosphere. Jesus Green 5 minutes away is a beautiful tree lined part, where houses a lido (outdoor pool), a fabulous playground, tennis courts, skate park and access to the running, walking, and cycling paths along the river. There are also great amenities on the doorstep, riverside cafes, pubs and restaurants, a butcher, bank, general store, and two excellent wine shops within minutes walks. The house is 15 minutes to Market Square-the very heart of historic Cambridge. Finally, there are two nurseries (daycare) in the immediate area, one incorporating a Montessori preschool for 3-5 year olds. There are also a number of primary schools (St Lukes, Milton Rd, Park Street) within easy walking distance of the house and is in catchment for Chesterton College Secondary.
