Wonderful home in a cohousing community, bike to campus, backs to park

This is a fantastic family home in Blacksburg in a cohousing community (Shadowlake Village) full of friendly neighbors and many children ages 0 to 14 who play together in the woods. Cohousing communities are intentionally designed with ample common spaces surrounded by private homes. The community has a common house (with biweekly community meals and events), a neighborhood POOL (very rare in Blacksburg) and 30 acres of woods, trails, and a green. This is a great opportunity to try cohoushing. The location is excellent. You can bike to campus, and we are zoned for very popular schools in town (Kipps Elementary, Blacksburg Middle, and Blacksburg High). We will be in Europe until summer 2025 and are looking for the right people to rent our house. The house is furnished, but we will remove personal things from drawers and closets. We will leave you a fully stocked kitchen and all appliances, TV, etc. We will store our things in the lower floor, which will not be part of the rental. Location: The house is perfectly sited. You have access to a vibrant community out front, but out back is the forest. The grocery store, bus routes, a shopping center, and some restaurants are about one mile away. But you can also walk for miles out the door without ever touching pavement, going into neighboring Brown’s Farm and Jefferson National Forest trails for miles of hiking and mountain biking, or the Huckleberry Trail for paved walking and biking. You are also a bike ride from campus and town, or a short (5-10 min) drive. There is a new mountain bike skills park that is about a 15 minute bike ride. House: The rented part of the house is about 1,900 square feet on three levels, and was painted recently. - Total is 3br, 3.5 bathrooms - Upstairs are 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms; half-bath on the main floor; full bath on walk out lower level with bright TV / living room - The main level is open with a kitchen, living and dining area, and powder room (half bath). - The walkout lower level has the washer/dryer with storage and a small workout room (with a Peloton bike and weights that you can use). Large second living room with trundle bed for guests. - Fenced backyard. Hot tub, only 4 years old. - Front porch with couches. Screened back porch is a new addition with a table and seating area looking onto woods. There are fans and a heat lamp, so it is really like a second living and dining room for 9-10 months out of the year! Other Notes: - Absolutely no smokers or vapers. For guests, there is a strict no smoking, no vaping policy, anywhere on the property, either indoors or outdoors. - Includes most kitchen items that you would need. We cook a lot, and have everything from a blender to an Instant Pot. - Window coverings throughout, including blackout shades in the bedrooms. - You will need to provide your own soft goods (bed linens, towels, and blankets) - Parking is about 50 yards from our house. There are two assigned spaces. One has access to an EV charger. There are several carts for bringing your groceries and things from the car. Because cars park on the outside, the inside of the community is pedestrian only, which is what makes it so lovely for children and adults. [Note: It is possible to drive cars and most trucks to your front door for moving or packing for big trips.] - Back yard is fenced with grass. Mowing takes about 15-20 minutes; mower provided. - Length of lease is flexible, but 1 year is preferred. Application including background checks, rental history, proof of income, etc required. We will also need to ensure a good fit for cohousing and the community. Your participation in the community is welcome, but optional. There are many postdocs, graduate students, faculty, and others who have been temporary community members, and have engaged at all different levels, from very little, to fully. The community is very welcoming.
