Cheerful Room in Single Family Home in the heart of historic Portland

We are a quiet family of 3 from California and the Netherlands, who recently relocated to Portland, ME. We speak, Dutch, German and English. When living in California, through our local connections to Professors and Grad Students at UC Berkeley we rented an in-law apartment on the side of our house for many years mostly to post doc students and lecturers at the campus there. This was always a very positive experience for us and we got along well with our tenants who did also join us for occasional meals. The house we are in now has an elegant feel and is spacious enough to accommodate an additional one person who plans to be in Portland on a relatively short term assignment. Two months to one year. We would share the living room, kitchen, dining room, backyard and central front door. The house is located within walking distance of all the downtown shops, resteraunts and music venues. The surrounding neighborhood is a wonderful place to walk and rewards you with elegant views out to the western forests and accross the Portland harbor past an amazing array of uniquely designed historic houses and a pre-civil war cemetery. Maine Medical Center is also an easy walk away, but not in our direct view. There are good swimming beaches just 15 minutes to the south by car in South Portland and Cape Elizabeth. We both work from home some of the time, as well as occupy an art studio on the premises. We welcome some interaction with our renter as well as the respect for quiet and privacy that we all are good at maintaining. We use a standard short term rental contract that includes a security deposit and fixed start and end dates. If possible, we will occasionally ask for cat sitting. We have one on site parking space behind our building reserved for our renter. Additional free street parking can be found a few blocks away from the house.
