| Stunning spacious house with solar heated pool in San Felipe del Agua, Oaxaca |
We offer for rent a beautiful, fully furnished 2 bed + study area/2 bathroom house. It is very spacious and combines the best of modern and traditional design,. Our house has a modern kitchen with all mod cons, a new stove, big fridge, washer patio area etc a large inviting lounge/dining room with high wooden beamed ceiling leading on to a roofed terrace with grill, hammock etc downstairs leading on to a garden, 2 bathrooms. There are two lovely bedrooms; the one upstairs can easily accommodate a double and single if necessary; it has a balcony with great views and a study area. There is a twin bedroom downstairs, also with a desk and plenty of space, next to the terrace where most visitors have passed their time as it is so inviting, beautiful, cool and relaxing. (Access to the solar heated pool next door can be arranged.)
The house is set in stunning surroundings, with views of the mountains from all angles of the house. It is situated in the most desirable residential area of Oaxaca, San Felipe del Agua. The house is set back 40 meters from the cobble stoned road so it is peaceful and very safe. There is a well lit private road leading to the gated property where you can park your car inside (we have never had a break in or any other security problem in this or our own house next door).
On the way to the house you pass the local mil, gorgeous donkeys and fresh tortillas being made by our neighbour who will be happy to provide with this delicious local food on a daily basis. The house is 2 blocks from the San Felipe del Agua Church and its square. The bus into town (which runs 7 days a week) is a stones throw from the house, the stop to the center is in front of the San Felipe del Agua Church and its square and the one coming back is literally at the end of the private road. For long term renters with children, schools are also within walking distance, so a car is not needed.
In San Felipe itself you will find a useful and charming corner of Mexico with market days on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, other small grocery stores, a local lending library and a 5 star hotel on the corner and its restaurant is one of many in the areas. Language (Amigos del Sol) popular with foreigners, is also within walking distance so a car is not necessary. There are also wonderful walks and hikes in the ecological park or in the mountains nearby.
The house is surprisingly close to the historic centre, so you will have the best of all worlds! Wake up with a glorious view to the mountains from your bedroom window,, exotic birds in your lush garden and the smell of tortillas, handmade in the ancient way, by a neighbouring family, just minutes from your door. They will be happy to provide you with this delicious local food on a daily basis.
Oaxaca is a popular spot for both foreigners and Mexicans due to the year-long wonderful climate and the exceptional scenery including cactus lined valleys and glorious mountains. There are fascinating cultural buildings and artisanal markets; also including museums, restaurants, various exciting specialist markets, and experiencing nature eg hiking in spectacular parks and ecologically important forests, bike and horse riding etc.
It is easy to arrange weekly or even daily help at home -to help with cleaning, cooking or baby sitting at very reasonable rates.
We are a British/Mexican couple who have lived in San Felipe for 12 years and are a convenient source of local knowledge. Sergio is an anthropologist and musicologist. Judith is a psychologist, anthropologist and painter. Sofia and Olivia are our two friendly, bi-lingual, daughters.
We rent the house for visitors who would like stay short and long term to paint/write/relax or immerse their children in the most colourful Mexican culture to learn/improve their Spanish and experience the world in one of the most popular cities in Mexico. Visitors with children will enjoy all the extra curricular activities that Oaxaca has to offer, Spanish classes, art classes teaching artesanal craft, climbing, dance, horse riding etc. We know many families who have come to Oaxaca for a year with and without children of various ages who have adapted to school life and learnt Spanish with amazing ease(there are bi-lingual schools though visitors prefer to immerse their children in Spanish speaking schools. Please note that Oaxaca is still a safe area of Mexico.
