This large family 18th-century house, fully furnished and equipped, combines charm and modern comfort. It is located on the edge of the picturesque Languedocien village of Quissac, in a quiet and narrow street. Nîmes is at a 30 minutes drive and the center of Montpellier at 40 minutes (Universities and Research Centers at 25 to 30 min.). The house offers a large and comfortable vaulted living/dining room, a kitchen, three bedrooms and one office space, two bathrooms (one with two washbasins, tub, shower and toilet, the other with shower, washbasin and toilet), a courtyard, a terrace. All the floors are antique-tiled and the stairs are made of natural stone. The house is offered for a rental lease of 9 to 10 months, to be taken between the end of August and the beginning of July, at the reasonable cost of 850 euros/month, utilities (water, electricity, gas, telephone, Internet) not included. The ground floor has a comfortable large vaulted living/dining room with a very efficient antique fireplace, plus a separate kitchen, equipped with up-to-date electric range, fridge, microwave oven, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner and washing machine. Both kitchen and living-room open on a lovely courtyard, offering privacy for eating outdoors and spending the pleasant summer evenings (275 sunny days/year on average). From the rear of the house or the terrace you can see a well kept private park and splendid tree-covered hills in the distance. On the first floor, the large terrace has a wonderful view. It can also be used to take meals. The master bedroom also benefits from the view, the other room and the large bathroom are on the street side. On the second floor, a study with an en suite bedroom offers the same wonderful view. The second bathroom and a small bedroom used for storage by the owners are also on that floor. The house is heated with gas downstairs and electricity upstairs (independent thermostats in each room). It is also equipped with high speed internet, telephone and Internet telephone (free long distance). Quissac is a small town (2,500 inhabitants), located between Nîmes, Montpellier and Alès, in the foothills of the Cévennes mountains in an area of vineyards and wooded hills. Its facilities include a supermarket, post office, town hall, regional high school, primary school and kindergarten, tennis court, various shops (including several butchers and bakers), as well as doctors’ offices and pharmacies. It also hosts a Provençal market on Wednesdays. All this is just a few steps from the house. Public transportation to Nîmes is available via three buses a day. The Université Paul Valery is a 30 min. drive away. Paris is three and a half hours from Nîmes by TGV (high-speed train). The Mediterranean Sea is 40 min. away (Grau du Roi), while the Cévennes mountains are just an hour in the other direction (X-country skiing in the winter).
The present owners, who bought the house in 1991, have occupied it for one-year periods on three different occasions and occupy it during July and August every year. Most of the time, it is rented to academics on sabbatical.
