COMMENTS FROM PRESENT RENTALS FROM SABBATICAL HOMES A very atmospheric house with a wonderful log fire for the winter and various seating areas for different times of the day. Excellently equipped and furnished, lots of space and delightfully situated in the middle of the village. Aigremont itself is also very well placed for visiting neighbouring towns and cities of which our favourites are Uzes and Nimes - both 25 minutes drive. We've made friends in the village very easily.
La Maison Soie is a restored 15th Century silk-mill, situated in the middle of a quiet rural village in the foothills of the Cevennes, Gard (Languedoc Rouissillon) region of the south of France, surrounded by vineyards and lovely countryside. The building has been renovated in an esoteric and sympathetic style and features a vaulted living room and a trompe d'oiel in the main bedroom. With the convenience of the village shop and a lovely restaurant on your doorstep this village house is great for those that want to be submersed in the middle of a classic French village. Upstairs you will find a large master bedroom with a study / playroom and ensuite shower room, a twin bedroom with an ensuite shower room, and a further double bedroom. A baby bath is provided for bathing small babies. The master bedroom has a fresque painted on the wall and a high ceiling with velux window and was originally the room that the Silk worms did their work in. Downstairs has a long living room with a vaulted ceiling as well as a TV room with DVD player (with children's DVD library) and English satellite television. The living room has a piano at one end and a wood burning stove at the other. The kitchen has all the facilities that you would hope for including a washing machine, oven, microwave and fridge.
Outside La Maison Soie has its own private walled courtyard which is perfect for shady meals al fresco. Although it is not a garden, there is room to run around in and it also has an outdoor shower to cool off and to also to clean off the children before going back inside! Boules and ping pong are also available for your use. The enclosed courtyard is completely safe and small toys are supplied.
And Beyond Situated on a quiet village street, 100 metres from vineyards and fabulous views, you have plently to see and do right on the doorstep. It is only five minutes walk to a children's playground. This village is ideally situated for lots of days out – the Roman city of Nimes (www.ot-nimes.fr) and the Pont du Gard are not far for example– and the young and vibrant city of Montpellier (www.ot-montpellier.fr) is a must see day out and great too for a bit of culture en plein air. Avignon is a very popular destination too and kayaking, horse-riding and bike hire can be found locallly. There is lots of information available in the house about what to do and see locally and local walks
Quote from Alastair Sawday Publishing "Special places to stay. French holiday homes"
Behind the arched blue door lies a restored 15th-century silk mill, its vaulted cellar rooms intact. It is an Aladdin’s cave, an intoxicating mix of French, English, Moroccan and Indian treasures. Escape the blistering heat into this cool, calm space; the village is cooly perched in the foothills of the Cévennes and you are in the middle of it. No garden, but a peaceful gravelled courtyard with chairs for dozing, a barbecue, a fountain and a summer shower. Inside, your gaze drifts to mellow yellow-washed walls, tiles - the best of old and new - and lofty ceilings. The sitting room is cavernous but is cosy in wintertime: a wood-burning stove, William Morris-covered armchairs, comfy sofas, books, an upright piano. Arched doors lead from the well-equipped kitchen into the courtyard where you must have your wonderful evening meal. A visit is necessary! |
