| 3-bedroom house near beach, 10-15 minutes from UCSD, 30 minutes from SDSU |
I am a retired academic currently living near San Diego. I'm thinking of relocating to Manhattan, and want to test it out first by trading homes during the winter of 2011. My house has two bedrooms plus a large study (or one bedroom and two studies). It is walking distance to the beach and if you peek just right it has an ocean view. Kitchen and baths were redone about 10 years ago, including lower-height-than-normal 5-burner cooktop and Japanese-style bath with steam bath (if I can get it fixed). House is U-shaped with a wall across the open end of the U enclosing a courtyard. Living room is huge and can be divided in two with a folding door. In the winter one of the trees has mandarin oranges on it. A gardener comes weekly.
Del Mar is the smallest incorporated city in California. There are a number of restaurants and shops you can walk to (it has a fairly good walkability index); a twice-hourly bus to UCSD is 3 blocks away.
I would move out my clothing and some valuables but leave dishes, linens, etc. for you, as well as some room in the bookcases. I am looking in return for a 2-bedroom apartment in a safe but interesting neighborhood such as the upper West Side, Greenwich Village, or Chinatown. Timing is extremely flexible, but I want to spend the worst of the winter (and the best of the culture) in Manhattan. January is rainy season in San Diego, but it's a lot warmer than New York, and it doesn't rain every day by any means.
I will be in New York in September and could take the opportunity to see your place. |
