My Brooklyn Heights one-bedroom (apartment 4E but that's two floors up from the entry) is an elevator building on a tree-lined street in the best neighborhood in Brooklyn, and one subway stop from Manhattan. It is two blocks from the Brooklyn Promenade with amazing views across the East River to downtown Manhattan. And an easy walk to Brooklyn Bridge Park- and you can walk over the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan. There are four subway stations so you can get anywhere in the NYC area. The apt consists of one bedroom, living room, galley kitchen and just renovated bathroom and a small hallway. The sliding glass doors in the living room and the windows in the bedroom look out on gardens below and giant trees. Still, it's not all that light during the day but I have lovely chandeliers (from the 1930's) and Venetian chandeliers to keep it bright. There is a City Bike rental stand a block away, a grocery store and many restaurants close by as well. It's Brooklyn so there are many good coffee shops. I am an anthropologist from Cornell so the apartment is filled with things from my travels to Africa, Bali, and Italy. I write books about anthropology and also two about Venice. I am going to Venice for the month of October to write, and my dates are pretty flexible. But I'd like to stay a month, especially the first three weeks in Oct since I have friends visiting Venice. The reason the rent is so cheap (for NYC) is because you have to take care of my two cats. Gilly is 10 years old and his nickname is Mr. Chill because he is. Nicky is only 2 and he likes to climb on top of the cabinets—the higher the better. He is also very sweet. You have to feed them wet and dry food 2 x a day, clean water for both of them, and scoop the litter box once a day. They pretty much sleep all the time but run about and chase each other once a day. If you leave an extra bowl of dry food they can be left for 24 hours. You will be provided with all the cat food, litter, and scoop bags they need. I work all day at a desk in the living room. There is a TV (Netfliix and Hulu) and good wifi. I can clean my clothes out of the closet and dresser if you want to put your stuff there. At the moment, I use a twin bed as a sofa in the living room but there might be a real sofa by Sept. The kitchen is equipped with everything you might want-a microwave, mixer, fridge and freezer, good pans, toaster, etc. The laundry is in the basement and you use an app to make it work and preload money- $1.75 per load. Garbage and recycling also must go to the basement but there is a garbage chute across the hall. You can have people over but no parties since it's a v v quiet building, and no dogs allowed, and no smoking. The sliding glass door in the living room and the bedroom window open and they are cat safe. And of course, there are a million things to do around NYC. I moved here last Sept from Philadelphia to be near my daughter who lives in Williamsburg. I can give you a FT video tour if you wish. I will need a deposit because I cannot go ahead and rent a place in Venice or get a plane ticket before I know someone will be living here and taking care of the cats. Let me know!
